Visual content is important. You probably know the saying, ” a picture is worth a 1000 words.”
And its true. In today’s day and age, words aren’t enough. Humans on the internet have shorter attention spans than that of a goldfish. That’s right, A goldfish!
What this means, is our job as bloggers, entrepreneurs and marketers is becoming harder.
We now need to be able to not only grab our readers attention fast, but also hold it long enough to create a relationship with them.
That is hard.
But the best way, to overcome this new obstacle is through the use of visual content (pictures, infographics or videos)
Visual content is best way to present information in a format that is attractive and engaging at the same time. It can not only capture a reader’s attention, but also has been shown to help readers understand and retain more information in a shorter period.
Visual content is the future of blogging and it’s about time, you start using it.
How to Create Visual Content
Creating visual content is not a hard thing to do. In fact, you can create effective and attractive visual content in a few easy steps:
This is step one in creating great visual content. Researching is the best way to put all your ideas together and satisfy both you and your customers.
Ask yourself a few questions:
- What is the intention of this visual content?
- Who is my audience
- What type of visual format am I going to use?
Combining the answers of these questions, with background information about your project should help you come up with a visual content idea.
2. Brain storm about your Idea Further
Analyze your idea further. What can you do with it? Will your audience like it? What is objective behind it? Does it achieve your goal effectively? Is it attractive? Is it original? Does it fit with what I have so far?
Questions like these need to be answered before moving on to the next stage.
3. Draft and Create Your Content
Now its time to actually create your content. First, prepare a timeline. What this will do is streamline your production process. Make sure to research, collect materials, script write etc. depending upon the content you are going to create.
Then, go on to the actual creation. Remember your piece of content needs to be attracting. It will never capture the audience if it isn’t appealing.
Tips When Creating Visual Content
- Never use Stock Images
Stock images are the worst thing you can use. Not only do you risk boring your audience, stock images add a vibe to laziness.
Think about it, using an generic image for content. Seems awful right?
2. Create your own image
This is what you should ideally do. You will want to create your own image. While it may seem like a daunting task when you say it, creating an image isn’t that hard.
You don’t need high end tools like photoshop or adobe indesign to create a high quality image.
3. Think about creating an Infographic instead of an Image
If a picture speaks a 1000 words, a good infographic can speak 100,000 words.
Thats right! An infographic has the ability to engage your audience to the highest level.
You might be thinking, “okay I’ll create an infographic instead but how.” Well its simple. Use tools like Canva. They allow you to create infographics with ease. No experience required.
Remember the goal of an infographic is to make difficult to digest concepts and make them easier to understand. What this means is that on your infographic there should be clarity, enough white space and minimal writing.
4. Make Videos
Videos are one of the most engaging and attractive visual content you can make. Videos should be short yet, informative. Make sure to add lots of excitement in your voice.
As the internet continues to grow, our attention spans will continue to dwindle. There is just too much on the internet for it, not to.
But you need to use everything you can to grab your audience’s attention and keep it there. And there is nothing better to do that other than creating visual content.
Remember Visual Content is an engaging piece of content should contain lots of pictures. It can be an infographic or a video as well.
A picture is worth a 1000 words, so its about time you use them.
